Bridgitte Hartley bags SA’s first Bronze!

South Africa won their 5th Medal of the London Olympics 2012 by claiming Bronze in the Kayak final today.

Bridgette Hartley, won South Africa’s first bronze medal of the games on the day that the country celebrates its Women’s Day. The Women’s kayak single K1 500m race was won by Danuta Kozak of Hungary who finished in 1:51.456, followed a second later by Ukrainian Inna Osypenko-Radomska in 1:52.685.

Hartley crossed the line at Eton Dorney on Thursday in 1:52.923 seconds.

South Africa is now 20th on the medal standings with 3 Gold, 1 Silver and the single Bronze secured today. With Caster Semenya running tonight, the country looks to improve that tally.
