The Truth is that The Dragon Is Back!
This passed weekend The UFC on FOX 4 took place in the Staples Centre in Los Angeles and was on of the most exciting cards of the year. Mike Swick made his come back against DaMarques Johnson via KO in the second and Joe Lauzon put on a fantastic performance against Jamie Varner which saw both guys fight hard but Lauzon finished it with a triangle in the third round.
The main card was given a bit of a hype when UFC president Dana White announced whoever won “most impressively” of the four light heavyweights competing would automatically get the next shot against the winner of Jones vs Henderson. So between Brandon Vera, Ryan Bader, Shogun Rua and Lyoto Machida the stakes got even higher just a week before the fight and the way these guys fought you could tell they were hungry.
Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida finished Ryan Bader in the second round of their contest via one punch KO, he looked in superb form and he had a very confident and aggressive look about him, one we have not seen before. Machida would love to get a shot at Jon Jones since he got put to sleep in their championship encounter and if he keeps up this form he could get that belt without question.
Shogun and Vera had a great contest, Vera actually surprised me by how willing he was to stand and trade blows with Shogun without wilting or backing out, he stayed in the pocket and threw elbows and knees. But Shogun is just too tough, he took Vera’s best shots and walked through, eventually getting a TKO stoppage in the fourth round, it was a great fight.
White then announced that Machida is next in line for a title shot, and he really does deserve it. Here’s a few pics from the night.
