The Dark Knight on the Dark Continent
Today “the fire rises” in South Africa as the long anticipated final installment of Chris Nolan’s Batman Trilogy comes to a conclusion on our big screens.
The Batman trilogy has been plagued with unfortunate incidents since its inception which lead many to believe that the franchise is hexed or even cursed. Batman Begins was the first and on its world wide premier the Tumbler had been involved in a crash, nothing fatal. The Dark Knight, the second installment, Heath Ledger who played the Joker was found dead in his hotel room after they had finished filming, it is believed that he overdosed on sleeping pills. And just last week James Holmes, a 24 year old PHD candidate massacred 12 people and injured 59 at the world premier of The Dark Knight Rises.
Despite all these setbacks and unfortunate circumstances it hasn’t dented peoples infatuation with Chris Nolan’s franchise. The film itself has already made over an estimated 300 million dollars at the box office so far.
As they say, “the proof is in the pudding” and the hype for most anticipated movie of the last 10 years can only be justified once we’ve seen it. Hopefully without any crazies spoiling this experience for everyone…
The Dark Knight Rises opens in all Nu-Metro and Ster-Kinekor cinemas around South Africa
